Shutterstock <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color\">Sergio Parra \/ National Geographic<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Un <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-024-07536-4\">nuevo estudio<\/a> publicado en <em>Nature<\/em> por cient\u00edficos de la Universidad del Sur de California (USC) ha confirmado que <strong>el n\u00facleo interno de la Tierra est\u00e1 desacelerando<\/strong> y retrocediendo en relaci\u00f3n con la superficie del planeta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esta investigaci\u00f3n proporciona<strong> evidencia inequ\u00edvoca<\/strong> de que el n\u00facleo interno comenz\u00f3 a disminuir su velocidad alrededor de 2010, movi\u00e9ndose m\u00e1s lentamente que la superficie terrestre por primera vez en aproximadamente 40 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El n\u00facleo interno, una esfera s\u00f3lida de hierro y n\u00edquel del tama\u00f1o aproximado de la Luna, se encuentra a m\u00e1s de 4.800 km bajo nuestros pies. Debido a su inaccesibilidad, <strong>los cient\u00edficos deben utilizar las ondas s\u00edsmicas de los terremotos para estudiar su movimiento<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El equipo de investigaci\u00f3n, liderado por <strong>John Vidale<\/strong>, analiz\u00f3 datos s\u00edsmicos de 121 terremotos repetitivos ocurridos entre 1991 y 2023 cerca de las Islas Sandwich del Sur. Tambi\u00e9n utilizaron datos de pruebas nucleares sovi\u00e9ticas, francesas y estadounidenses. Este<strong> enfoque innovador <\/strong>les permiti\u00f3 rastrear con precisi\u00f3n los movimientos del n\u00facleo interno.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00bfC\u00f3mo afecta este fen\u00f3meno a la Tierra?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Los resultados muestran que<strong> el n\u00facleo interno experiment\u00f3 una super-rotaci\u00f3n<\/strong> gradual de 2003 a 2008, seguida de una sub-rotaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s lenta de 2008 a 2023. Este patr\u00f3n de avance y retroceso sugiere una din\u00e1mica compleja entre el n\u00facleo interno, el n\u00facleo externo l\u00edquido y el manto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La desaceleraci\u00f3n del n\u00facleo interno se atribuye a la <strong>agitaci\u00f3n del n\u00facleo externo l\u00edquido que lo rodea<\/strong>, el cual genera el campo magn\u00e9tico terrestre, as\u00ed como a las fuerzas gravitacionales de las regiones densas del manto rocoso suprayacente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"994\" height=\"560\" superficie terrestre son m\u00ednimos, Vidale sugiere que este cambio <strong>podr\u00eda alterar la duraci\u00f3n del d\u00eda en fracciones de segundo<\/strong>, un efecto casi imperceptible debido a la influencia de los oc\u00e9anos y la atm\u00f3sfera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rebatiendo 20 a\u00f1os de debate<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Este estudio resuelve un debate de dos d\u00e9cadas sobre <strong>el movimiento del n\u00facleo interno<\/strong> y proporciona la evidencia m\u00e1s convincente hasta la fecha sobre su comportamiento.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los investigadores planean continuar estudiando la trayectoria del n\u00facleo interno para comprender mejor por qu\u00e9 est\u00e1 cambiando y <strong>c\u00f3mo estos cambios podr\u00edan afectar a nuestro planeta a largo plazo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La investigaci\u00f3n destaca la naturaleza din\u00e1mica y compleja del interior de la Tierra, record\u00e1ndonos que<strong> incluso las
