Al finalizar la Audiencia General de este mi\u00e9rcoles 28 de diciembre, el Papa Francisco solicit\u00f3 oraciones por el Papa em\u00e9rito Benedicto XVI porque \u201cest\u00e1 muy enfermo\u201d y en \u201csilencio est\u00e1 sosteniendo a la Iglesia\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ante miles de fieles reunidos en el Aula Pablo VI del Vaticano para la tradicional Audiencia General<\/a> semanal, el Santo Padre pidi\u00f3 una oraci\u00f3n especial por el Papa em\u00e9rito Benedicto XVI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cQuisiera pedir a todos una oraci\u00f3n especial por el Papa em\u00e9rito Benedicto<\/strong>, que en silencio sostiene a la Iglesia\u201d, dijo Francisco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adem\u00e1s, el Santo Padre pidi\u00f3 \u201crecordarlo\u201d porque \u201cest\u00e1 muy enfermo\u201d por lo que alent\u00f3 a pedir \u201cal Se\u00f1or que le consuele y le sostenga en este testimonio de amor a la Iglesia hasta el final<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El 11 de febrero de 2013, con entonces 85 a\u00f1os, Benedicto XVI sorprendi\u00f3 al mundo con el anuncio, hecho en lat\u00edn, de que estaba renunciando al papado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La renuncia fue efectiva el 28 de febrero de 2013, fecha en la que Benedicto XVI se traslad\u00f3 a Castel Gandolfo durante el per\u00edodo de la sede de vacante y C\u00f3nclave en el que los Cardenales eligieron al Papa Francisco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poco despu\u00e9s, el Papa em\u00e9rito Benedicto XVI se mud\u00f3 al ex Monasterio Mater Eclesiae<\/em> que se encuentra en los jardines del Vaticano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A partir de entonces, Benedicto XVI vive all\u00ed junto a su secretario personal, Mons. Georg G\u00e4nswein, en donde se ha dedicado a la lectura, estudio, escritura y oraci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El pasado 16 de abril, Benedicto XVI cumpli\u00f3 95 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
